Russia is in talks to supply “several dozen” Su-35 jet fighters to the United Arab Emirates, stated Russian Industry and Trade Minister Denis Manturov as saying on Thursday.
The Sukhoi-35 is a designation for two separate, heavily upgraded derivatives of the Su-27 aircraft. They are single-seat, twin-engine, supermaneuverable multirole fighters, designed by Sukhoi and built by Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aircraft Production Association .
The Russian Air Force operates 58 Su-35S fighters as of December 2016 and an additional 50 jets were ordered in January 2016. The Chinese People’s Liberation Army Air Force placed an order for 24 Su-35S jets in 2015, and started receiving them in December 2016.
In case the UAE purchases the Su-35, it would be the first Russian-made jet operated by their air force.
