According to Iraqi media, the country’s army has received 10 BMP-1 Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFV) from Bulgaria.
Earlier, in December 2015, the Iraqi Ministry of Defense had announced that several T-72 tanks and 12 BMP-1s were delivered from Bulgaria as well.
Bulgaria had purchased 100 T-72A tanks and 100 BMP-1Ps from Russia in 1996. These were former Soviet Army equipment that were stored on the territory of Bulgaria since the 1980s.
The Iraqi Army has stepped up its purchasing activity. Most equipment that have been acquired recently are ex-Soviet from Eastern Europe.
