Polish Ambassador: Poland accepts Armenia's decision to upgrade tanks with Russia

Polish defense sector companies’ interest in upgrading Armenia’s T-72 tanks was not inferior to the Russian offer according to the Polish Ambassador to Armenia, Jerzy Marek Nowakowski.

The ambassador recalled that the Government and the Ministry of Defense of Armenia have decided that Russia will be upgrading Armenia’s tanks.

“Of course, we accepted this [decision] with regret, but with understanding,” stated Nowakowski.

Armenia and Russia have launched a large-scale program to upgrade the T-72 main battle tanks of the Armenian Armed Forces to T-72B4 variant locally.

Before inking a contract with Russia, Armenia was planning to upgrade 84 T-72 tanks to Polish PT-72U variant back in 2013.
