Russia’s Rostec State Corp. said it expects to sign an agreement this weekend to build around 200 military helicopters in India.
Rostec, which controls different Russian companies that make everything from small arms to radar systems, didn’t disclose the value of the deal. A person familiar with the negotiations said the cost of the Ka-226T light multipurpose helicopters would be about $1 billion.
India’s state-run Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. will be the local joint-venture partner for the factory in India. The Ka-226T, which will replace aging Chetak and Cheetak helicopters, are primarily used for reconnaissance and the transportation of troops and cargo.
