The US will help Ukraine enhance its defense capabilities according to a cooperation agreement on defense technology.  The agreement will improve Ukraine’s Armed Forces which have been fighting in the ongoing conflict in the country’s east.

US Defense Secretary Ash Carter and his Ukrainian counterpart inked the agreement at a meeting in London on Thursday. Carter will also assign a senior US adviser to oversee the cooperation agreement.

This comes shortly after ex-NATO chief Anders Fogh Rassmusen stated that the West can provide lethal weapons to Ukraine in case the fighting does not die down.

The nature of the US assistance has not been announced. US military assistance to Ukraine until now has been non-lethal.
