Russia’s Shvabe optical electronics manufacturer together with the Russian Helicopters Company fitted the Mi-17V-5 military transport helicopter with a GOES-321MK advanced optoelectronic imaging system reports Russia’s Izvestiya newspaper. The Mi-17/Mi-8 is one of the most widely used transport and search & rescue helicopters.
According to the manufacturer, the imaging system allows the helicopter’s pilots to navigate in the most challenging situations. When flying at a low level, the helicopters will be capable of detecting objects and obstacles at a distance of up to several miles away, something that did not previously exist on the Mi-17s.
The upgraded was displayed at the Army-2016 forum, which kicked off on Tuesday and ended on Sunday.
