The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) ground force aviation units have received WZ-10 attack helicopters, according to Chinese media.

An undisclosed number of WZ-10s have been delivered to an aviation brigade of the PLA 13th Group Army, which means that all of the units of PLA are equipped with attack helicopters.

The WZ-9, which was based on the French Eurocopter Dolphin, has been the backbone of the PLA for more than two decades, and it was not until 2011 when the first WZ-10s were entered service with the PLA.

The WZ-10 is developed and produced by Changhe Aircraft Industries Group, a subsidiary of Aviation Industry Corp of China, the country’s leading aircraft manufacturer. It made its public appearance in November 2012 during the China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition, also known as the Zhuhai Air Show.

Though the helicopter was designed for anti-tank missions, it has a secondary air-to-air combat capability.
